Victory of Rights: The illegal Japscan manga scan site blocked in France

In a decision made on July 23, 2025, Justice established a total blockade of a site that made manga possible.

It is a great victory for the main manga editors in France. For several months, the members of the National Edition Union, including Crunchyroll, Glénat, Delcourt, Kana or Ki-Oon and Pika, sought to end the actions of the Japscan platform.

This allowed access to the scans (to copies) of almost 13,000 manga, comics or comics. He was consulted for almost 700,000 visitors per month in France.

A juicy but illegal business

To be profitable, the site multiplied the advertising people and also offered a monthly subscription to get rid of them. A particularly lucrative financial gain, but above all perfectly illegal.

The various Internet operators must put “all measures capable of avoiding access to the Japanese site. According to Tech & Co, the site has already changed the domain name and, therefore, remains accessible.

A manga market in crisis

Remember that manga is particularly affected by piracy: more than 83% of frequent pirate platform readers (according to a manga study), particularly to read chapter scans transmitted in Japanese magazines and translated into French by fans.

If for a long time, it was difficult to legally benefit from manga without waiting for several months after its Japanese launch, the platforms that allow doing so without going through the computer pirates have multiplied in recent years. We can mention a significantly manga, Manga Plus or Izneo. Some offer subscriptions, when others sell the various volumes by the unit, which can then be read on their smartphone or tablet.

The intensification of the fight against Hack has been stronger in recent months, while the manga market retracts 9.3% during the year 2024. For editors, so there is an emergency. In addition to Japscan, the Z Library site was also blocked.
