The United Kingdom stops claiming Apple a “stolen” on iPhone and Macbook

This “stolen door” would have allowed the British authorities to access the personal data of iphone, macbook and iPad users.

A victory for Apple. On the night of August 18, the director of National Intelligence in the United States, Tulsi Gabbard, announced that the United Kingdom resigned from a “robbery” of the American giant. The British government had requested it last January to allow the authorities to access the personal data of the users of iPhone, Macbook and iPad.

“The United Kingdom has agreed to give up Apple that provides a ‘stolen door’ that would have allowed access to the protected figures of US citizens and infringed our civil freedoms,” Tulsi Gabbard said in X.

An announcement made after months of “close collaboration with our partners in the United Kingdom, along with Donald Trump and JD Vance,” he said.

Systematic rejection

Apple has not yet been expressed after this announcement. This is not the first time that the company has faced such demand. Already in 2016, American justice had tried to force him to allow the FBI to access the terrorist data that died in the attack of San Bernardino.

The Apple storage system is encrypted from beginning to end, only the user can access the content of their device or their account. Even the company cannot see this content.

At that time, Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, opposed the request of US justice, highlighting the threat of a stolen door for the security and privacy of its clients.

In the case of the United Kingdom, the company had protested by eliminating the function allowing British users to quantify the data on their iPhone. “As we have said many times, we have never configured a ‘stolen door’ or ‘main key’ (which allows you to quantify and decipher data, editor’s note) for any of our products or services and we will never do it,” said Apple.
