Four years in prison for having avenged. In the United States, Davis Lu, a Chinese citizen, was sentenced to the deployment of a malicious code on the network of his former employer, reports the United States Ministry of Justice. A crime for which he was declared guilty last March.
Developer at Eaton Corpdepuis November 2007, Davis Lu began sabotaging the company’s network in 2018, when he felt he would soon be fired. That year, he saw his responsibilities and access to reduced systems after a restructuring of the company. A few months later, in October 2019, he presented his malicious code on the network, causing breakdown and preventing employees from connecting.
Violation of trust
More specifically, the malicious code in question included a “killing switch” (emergency stop button in French) to block access to all employees. Designed to meet the “Davis Lu is activated at Active Directory?”, In other words, is it still used by Eaton Corp, the “Switch Kill” activated on September 9, 2019, the day he was fired and summoned to make his laptop?
That day, Davis Lu also eliminated the encrypted data from his laptop, but that did not prevent the researchers from returning to him. Because “his Internet research history revealed that he had sought methods to raise his privileges, hide processes and quickly eliminate archives, indicating the intention of hindering his colleagues’ efforts to solve the problems of the system,” said the United States Ministry of Justice.
In addition to the four years in prison, Davis Lu was also sentenced to three years of supervised freedom.
