Interchangeable for the DMA, European regulation in digital markets, Apple does not want the United Kingdom to take more restrictive measures for technological giants. According to the company, the new rules proposed by the British competition supervision authority (the CMA) “are bad for users and bad for developers.”
Similar arguments had been used, in vain, by Apple shortly before the establishment of the DMA in the old continent.
As a result, several characteristics have been late compared to the rest of the world in iOS as in macOS. And some are not even available at all, especially those who use AI, Apple’s intelligence.
The English regulator refutes Apple’s arguments
For the English authority, Apple’s arguments are not at all good. According to her, the new rules aim to help companies innovate and develop, explains to the BBC.
The CMA notes that around 90 to 100% of British mobile devices operate in iOS and Android, which would make it “an effective duopoly.”
Therefore, the United Kingdom wants to impose on Apple and Google changes in its operating system, for example, to allow other payment systems outside the App Store and Play Store, as is the case in Europe. The final decision is expected for the month of October.
If these new rules come into action, they should not please Donald Trump, who has made the protection of American technological giants a battle horse. Therefore, he threatened the “consequences” countries “not respecting the United States and their incredible technological companies.”
The CMA specifies wanting to “respect the intellectual property” of companies, which could lead to several changes in the expected regulation in autumn. By then, Apple is invited as Google to express themselves to give your opinion, and maybe I tilt the balance in your favor.
