A warning signed by a dozen countries. This August 29, 2025, the FBI or the NSA, or the American Cybersecurity Agency, expressed their concerns about the establishment of a “world spy system” piloted by China.
According to this document highlighted by the specialized Dark Reading site, the threat is even more important since the activities carried out by groups of computer pirates, such as Salt Typhoon, without much surprise, directly supported by the Chinese regime.
Complex methods to be established permanently
In recent months, these groups have produced several large -scale cyber attacks, especially in telecommunications systems, government sites, linked to transport or defense. To do this, they use routers and network devices to create a persistent access point, which can be used later, in the long term. But their activities date back at least 2021, according to this intergence warning.
The known vulnerabilities are exploited through the services of Cisco and Ivanti, two telecommunications equipment giants, to establish comfortably in a system, to better attack. Espionage is the first cause of these cyber attacks, but the recovery of personal data is also highlighted.
Signed by another ten state intelligence agencies, including Canada, Japan or the United Kingdom, this document also highlights the solutions to protect against these attacks. In particular, the need to better monitor changes in the configurations of a network, or the verification of the software updates used, not to miss a “zero day” failure (a fault that exists and potentially used, without the software editor or the hardware manufacturer knowing the existence).
American information explains that computer pirates have also changed their methods, particularly when settling in a very deep system and reaching only a few months, even years, later, so as not to arouse suspicion.
The FBI as much as the NSA speaks of “persistent threats” that, therefore, require “proactive” and constant surveillance.
If China is indicated in this report, it is not the only one who uses these methods. In recent years, Iran and Russia have also done many damages, especially in France, by hacking hospitals or state infrastructure.
