Can we travel to the executive class being invited by the Taliban? The question has arisen from the transmission of an Instagram video, where you can see a French cameraman, Tibi Jones (his real name Tibault Jones), visits Afghanistan with the terrorist group that regained control of almost the entire country in the summer of 2024.
It was the story of a young man in his veins, who caused billing on social networks. We can see it sitting on a plane, in executive class, next to a taliban armed with a Kalashnikov. Tibi Jones, all smiles, can cause controversy, is not on its first trip to the ultra sensitive area.
Garbage videos that make recipes
Followed by 328,000 people on Instagram and 462,000 on YouTube, it became known with its garbage videos with a grandiloquent tone in dangerous countries. These combine the hundreds of thousands of points of view, and allow him to discover “the traffickers of the Rio Favelas”, “The pirates in Colombia” or “The hot districts of Medellin”, one of the most dangerous cities in Colombia.
Aided by miniatures often exaggerated and adorned with women with small clothing or modifications for AI, it is intended to show “delay of the decoration” of the countries and the areas that it visits, often abused in the media. In fact, these are places where crimes are legion, but also where human rights and minorities are rarely respected.
This is the case of Afghanistan. Tibi Jones also assumes this position: “I realize that the narration he explained in the Western media is not the same as in the field,” specifies, even in the company of the Taliban.
In Afghanistan, the media and freedom of expression are severely controlled and repressed if something is not suitable for power instead. Women are also largely invisible, while the law of Sharia, Islamic law, is in their place in the country.
“We must give voice to the Afghan who are fighting”
While waiting for the full video, which turns at this time, Tibi Jones continues to document his adventures on his Instagram account. Its objective is to go see “the Afghan people”, whatever it is if all communication is systematically controlled by the Taliban: “suffer, there is poverty, it is not easy for them.”
Quai d’Orsay advises the French to go to Afghanistan due to the terrorist nature of the regime.
In spite of everything, some stories later, we see that Tibi Jones greatly promotes the Taliban propaganda: “Bedouins are armed to not protect themselves from humans, but to protect their sheep from the wolves,” showing a great caliber gun.
To those who accuse him of “supporting the regime”, he replies that it is necessary to “give voice to these people, give voice to the Afghans who are fighting.” Extreme.
Contacted, Tibi Jones has not yet responded to our interview application.
