A “always available” teacher: two thirds of adolescents use YouTube to learn new knowledge

YouTube has become an ally to help teenagers review or simply learn new knowledge. According to a recent study by Livity and Oxford Economics, more than three quarters of teachers who use YouTube have video content integrated into their courses or duties.

The anti -end from Cyrus north, Draw me echo Series thinker or videos of Geopolitical Philosophy of Mr. Geopolitix … All this content on YouTube helped more than one student review for the BAC.

According to a study by Livity and Oxford Economics conducted in more than 7,000 young people from 13 to 18 years in seven European countries, almost three quarters of young Europeans declare watch videos several times a week to help them in their studies or for simple pleasure.

A “always available” teacher

In France, more than two thirds (68%) of questioned adolescents use YouTube to acquire new knowledge for the school. In the same way, almost seven out of 10 French adolescents turn to the Google platform to learn new things for pleasure or outside the school framework.

This is, for example, the case of Nicolás, 18. The young student spent his baccalaureate last June. A little in difficulty in certain courses, he did not hesitate, in the advice of his teacher, to resort to the videos of Yvan Monka, professor of mathematics followed by 2.83 million subscribers.

“There are many videos for high school students, but I managed to find several terminal lessons,” recalls Nicolas, with Tech & Co. “It is super intuitive and, above all, when I did not understand part of the course, it allows you to always have a teacher available to explain to explain.”

The same observation for Clara, 24 years. The young woman finished the high school student 7 years ago. However, you still remember the economic videos of Draw Me echo, advised by her teacher. “I was not getting anything in the economy,” he smiles. “These videos helped me a lot. It was in the form of cartoon and much clearer than long texts or graphics.” Since then, Clara has embarked on economics studies. And she admits: “It happens to look at some.”

Teachers also bet on YouTube

The study also shows that parents and teachers also resort to YouTube to support children in their learning, develop their creativity and understand the world around them.

And adolescents are not the only ones who bet on YouTube to help children in their learning. According to the study, in France, more than three quarters of teachers (78%) who use YouTube have integrated video content in their courses or their duties. 77% agree that the platform helps students continue their learning outside the classroom.

Observation is the same on the parents side. 68% of them believe that YouTube helps your children learn. And, unlike other platforms, seven out of ten parents feel sufficiently equipped in terms of tools and configuration to guide their child towards the responsible use of the platform.

In fact, already in 2016, YouTube settled in France YouTube Kids, a version dedicated to children from 3 to 9 years. In addition to a simplified interface, filter applications videos and offer the parents tips to better understand the network.

If YouTube has entered the daily life of the students, Tiktok competes more and more the historical platform. In recent years, educational content has been increasingly numerous on the platform. “Proof of the undeniable enthusiasm of the users, #Aprendingurtiktok has accumulated 3 billion visits since its appearance 3 years ago,” recalls the platform in a blog post. And, according to a more Hati study, 50% of high school students in BAC Pro, and 20% of students in the general sector review through the Chinese platform.
