The days are followed and delivered gradually in the nightmare for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). The British manufacturer, a subsidiary of Indian Tata Motors, has been arrested for weeks.
On September 2, the company revealed that it was affected by a massive cyber attack. The group was forced to close their systems. Which bothers “seriously” its “sales and production activities.” Fifteen days later, the manufacturer is still paralyzed. Worse, according to the BBC, the company confirmed, on Tuesday, September 16, that there is no scheduled acquisition before September 24.
Sterling loss of 50 million pounds
Without a computer system, no car can leave the channels. Result, not around 1,000 cars per day. A loss of 50 million pounds of sterling sales per week (57 million euros), according to BBC figures.
Several data leaks must also deplo. According Automotive news EuropeAlmost 40,000 vehicles gathered before cyber attacks are not found in the system. These cars, ready to be delivered, can no longer be located.
For September 24, three and a half weeks of production will have been lost. Sector professionals believe that even after restarting production channels, the return to normal production will probably take several weeks.
Faced with this nightmare, several companies could face bankruptcy. The Unite union warned against the loss of jobs and said that government assistance would be necessary given the duration of the sentence.
“We see that employers argue any dismissal. People have to pay their rental, their real estate loans and if they are not paid, what are they supposed to do?” Lands Jason Richards, regional manager of West Midlands within the Unite Union. The English government and its cybersecurity services work in concert with JLR to solve the problem.
The moment could not fall worse. At the end of the year, the manufacturer made a strategic turn by offering only 100% of electric vehicles. Several models have already been delayed by 2026.
