Donald Trump signed a decree that defines the contours of American Tiktok activities on Thursday, September 25, September 25 in several of his rich support, while the parent company of the Chinese platform will only keep the minority participation.
From the Oval office, the president of the United States said that the American version of the platform would be managed by “very sophisticated” investors, such as Larry Ellison, at the head of the Oracle technological giant, Michael Dell, founder of Dell Group, and Rupert Murdoch Media.
According to several media, the investment company Silver Lake Partners and the Silicon Valley Andreessen Horowitz giant are also part of the agreement. According to the decree published on Thursday night from the White House, Bytedance, the Matrix company of Tiktok, will maintain a participation of “less than 20%”.
JD Vance, an old risk capital that managed the team responsible for finding a solution for Tiktok, said the US entity would be estimated at around $ 14 billion, while adding that the last word would return to investors.
The new arrivals to the capital are all allies of Donald Trump and share their political opinions, but the US president insisted that the application would not be subject to any partisan guidance.
The president confirmed that the American version of Tiktok would have a copy of the application algorithm, considered as the key to his success. “Our fundamental objective was to maintain the functioning of Tiktok, while taking care to protect the confidentiality of the data of the Americans, according to the law,” American vice president JD Vance said Thursday.
Silence in Beijing
The Congress, which feared to see the Chinese authorities access the data of US users or modify the algorithm to influence them, adopted a Tiktok binding law in 2024 to leave the bytedance, under penalty of prohibition. Donald Trump has extended the deadline several times to find a recovery agreement. According to the decree published on Thursday, it now extends until January 23, 2026.
When asked about the validation of this agreement by Chinese authorities, Donald Trump said President Xi Jinping had given him green light last week.
Beijing, however, remained in silence on the agreement. But during the phone call between the two presidents, Xi Jinping asked his American counterpart to avoid “unilateral” commercial restrictions and preserve a “non -discriminatory” climate for Chinese companies, the CCTV of the Chinese state chain reported. Contacted by AFP, Bytedance and Tiktok did not respond immediately.
