Announced in early September, the parental control of OpenAi for Chatgpt is finally available. The new company announced its implementation in the website of its chatbot this Monday, September 28. Accessible for all users, it will soon be available on mobile devices, which will allow parents to administer the experience of their children.
With this parental control, Openai aims to better protect children with chatgpt. This is part of their efforts to ensure their chatbot, announced after parents filed a complaint against her for her son’s suicide. Tech & Co explains how this parental control works.
Link your account to your son’s
To start, this new parameter is in the configuration, then “counts.” From there, a father will have to click “add a family member” to connect his account to his son’s. This will be wrong to send an invitation to the adolescent, which you will have to accept to make the connection.
Once this is done, the father can administer his son’s parameters from his account. It will also be informed if the latter dissociates his account of his. Keep in mind that a minor can also invite a father to connect.
Calm hours
When a teenager links his account to that of one of his parents, additional protections will be automatically applied (against explicit content, viral challenges, sexual games they play …) to offer an experience adapted to his age, he assures Openai. Parents will have the possibility to deactivate this parameter, but not children.
From another page, they can also customize the experience of their teenager. This brings together several control options, allowing them to start, define “hours of calm”, during which a minor will not be able to use chatgpt.
Parents can also deactivate certain functions, such as vocal mode or images generation. They can do the same with the chatbot memory, preventing you from saving and using past discussion elements when you respond. Finally, they will have the possibility of prohibiting the chatgpt using their children’s conversations to improve the models that feed them.
Security notifications
Aware that teenagers resort to their AI when they go through difficult times, OpenAi has also established security notifications in their parental control. Specifically, when their systems detect a potential risk that a child is doing evil, the situation will be evaluated by specialized people within the new company. And in the case of Aïgue’s anguish signs, the Chatgpt creator will prevent parents through an Push notification, SMS or email.
“Parents do not have access to their teenage conversations, except in rare cases in which our qualified system and examinators detect possible signs of serious security risk, but only with the information necessary for the safety of their teenager,” Openai said on a page of resources aimed at legal officials.
They will also choose how they want to be notified (SMS, email or push notification, or three), or even indicate that they do not want to be warned.
