Google wants to impose new restrictions on Android, alternative application stores

Google will configure a new certification process, which can put an end to the development of third -party applications kiosks on Android.

While in Europe, operating systems developers must open their doors in a large way to allow the arrival of alternative offers, there is a lot of talk about Google in the developer community. The giant that distributes to Android has announced his intention to prove a new certification process, which will force developers to register with Google if they wish to distribute their applications outside the Play Store.

A new agreement that can undermine or even make the persiars of alternative application disappear. In any case, this is the alert launched by F-Droc, one of the main free software distributors in Android, about fifteen.

A real risk of competition

Applications available through F-DTT are not offered in Play Store, so you must manually download the APK (the application installation file). But Google believes that this method, which is as old as Android, is no longer sustainable because it represents a risk in user data.

It cannot show that Google is wrong because the cases of Verolyzed APK files have often reached the headlines, especially in applications or games that are not available in certain countries.

But the verification process that Google wants to offer is not the correct solution, F-Droid estimates. According to these plans, if Google has not previously verified an application, it cannot be installed manually on a certified Android device. Clearly, the company will control everything that the user can install everything he can install.

Especially because Google’s security argument is far from being unanimous. There is no shortage of examples when it comes to pointing out the finger in the moderation failure, with verolified applications that have been distributed in Play Store.

For F-Droid, which does not authorize or monitoring or invasive ads in the applications it distributes, the slogan united by Google is a means of spying even more the Android devices (as well as developers), while it does not have human or financial resources to claim application identifiers instead of developers in their blind.

Google monopoly in Android in question

In addition, the issue of verification costs arises, while many independent developers offer their application through F-Droid for free. The current test also raises a question in this address.

Details recently published by Google also show that the company is far from being safe from the viability of its project, especially in the face of regulations around the world. F-Droid also states that Europe and the United States come to take a look at this project, which, according to him, could strengthen the Android monopoly “by Google”.

Although historically, Android is an open operating system, we are witnessing this new functionality to strengthen Google control. A criticism that has often been made to Apple and iOS, and that today seems to be widespread.

Recently, Google has been forced to promote alternative application stores after losing proof against epic games. With its verification system, Google is trying to recover control. The launch is planned in some countries (including Brazil, Indonesia and Singapore) during October 2025 before a generalization in 2027. If a request is not verified, it will have a year to store under penalty of being blocked.
