In Snapchat, we will have to get the bank card. The social network with 450 million users has announced its intention to collect the storage of memories, photos and videos recorded on the platform, beyond 5 GB. The announcement was made on Friday, September 26 through a blog post.
The memories service was launched in 2016. It allows Internet users to file their favorite photos and videos. But gradually, some Internet users have made their phototheque Snapchat. If Snapchat guarantees that most users store less than 5 GB, part of the Internet users keep hundreds of GB in the application. For the platform to be forced to use more and more servers to store them.
12 months of respite
In October 2026, memories will be paid. Users can store 5 GB for free, as in ICloud, but they will have to pay to go further. In the United States, three formulas are offered. According to TechCrunch, it will be necessary to pay $ 1.99 per month per 100 GB of storage. The Snapchat+subscription billed € 3.99 per month, increases the capacity to 250 GB. Finally, the platinum package, which is shown at € 15.99 per month, offers 5 TB of storage.
“We will provide 12 months of temporary storage for all memories that exceed the storage limit of 5 GB,” adds the platform. So you have a year to organize. But in October 2026, the new system will be implemented.
A solution that will not pay, without losing anything
If your memories exceed 5 GB but you don’t want to go to payment, there is a solution: download your data.
- As the P4MUI user points to X, to avoid spending hours keeping each video manually, Internet users can go to http://acounts.snapchat.com and connect to their profile.
- Then you must go to “My data”, select “export your memories, chat media and shared stories.”
- Then check the “Memories” option when configuring the other data.
- Finally, only press “Next” and uncheck “do you want to export data from a specific date?”
All photos and videos recorded in memories will be sent by email.
