Since 2007, Google Street View captures the world around us. Over 15 years of watching dozens of Google-branded cars, equipped with state-of-the-art panoramic cameras, cross and memorize the roads to create and feed this explorable 360-degree map of the world.
But if this mapping tool is very practical for orienting yourself or virtually traveling to distant places, it nevertheless raises questions in terms of privacy. In fact, any individual in possession of his address can virtually go to his street to get an idea of where he lives. To avoid this type of inconvenience, it is very possible to request Google to blur your house in Google StreetView.
Write your home address
Open the web browser and go to Google Maps. In the search field, enter your home address.
Show your house on Street View
You have two options:
- Click on Street View located on the top left
- Drag and drop the yellow man-shaped icon, located at the bottom right of the window, on the map of your house
Report a problem
Click on the three small dots in the box where the address is written. Select the “Report a problem” tab.
A new page opens with a preview of the address displayed in Street View surrounded by a red frame. In the “Request blur” line, select “My home”. A small red square appears on the image, outlining the area to be blurred.
Once the red square is placed, you have to verify the blur request, then provide your email address and validate. Finally, click the “Submit” button to save your request. The process to blur your house in Google Street View has begun.
Please note that Google will likely contact you again for further explanation in order to validate your request.
