An investigation shows that Tiktok “actively pushes minors” to pornographic content

According to a global witness survey, the titkok algorithm guides minors towards explicit and pornographic sexual content. To overcome moderation, Internet users camouflage these clips in harmless videos.

Tiktok still agitation. According to a new survey conducted by the NGO’s global witness, the application of short videos would redirect young users to sexually explicit and pornographic content in a few clicks.

As part of the survey published on October 3, broadcast by The Guardian, the non -profit organization created seven new profiles on phones without research history using the birth date of 13 -year -old children, the minimum age to register on the platform. The limited mode, which limits exposure to sexually suggestive content, has also been activated.

Pornographic content from the first click

However, the researchers did not even need to look for the pornographic content themselves. As soon as they opened the search bar, Tiktok suggested “highly sexualized” terms in the “You like” section. The suggested terms included the expressions “Very very thick light suits”, “Very thick girls” or “Hardcore clip”. For three accounts, sexual research was immediately suggested.

After “some clicks”, the researchers discovered pornographic content. Among these videos, naked women, others who simulate masturbation or even sex with penetration. Some videos seemed to organize children under 16. In three cases, Global Witness found pornographic content from the first click.

And during additional clicks, the survey shows that the adult content number continues to increase. The videos are increasingly explicit.

Exhaust moderation

To escape the moderation of the platform, Internet users have fun hiding sexually explicit content in the middle of a photo or a trivial video. Enough to surprise more than one Internet user. “Can anyone explain what is happening with my search recommendations, please?” He cares for a surfer. “What’s wrong with this application?” Add another.

Global Witness had already alerted the short video platform last January. Then, the platform said it would have taken measures and eliminated several research recommendations. However, when the organization redone the experience between July and August, nothing had changed. The same sexually explicit suggestions continued to appear.

For his part, Tiktok assured the NGO that he would have eliminated the incriminated videos and made changes in his research recommendations. “As soon as we have informed us of these accusations, we have taken immediate measures to investigate, eliminate the content that violated our policies and launch improvements to our research suggestion function,” said a spokesman.

This is not the first time that Tiktok has been criticized for its lack of protection of young users. Last September, in France, the Report of the Parliamentary Commission for Research on the psychological effects of Tiktok developed the same observation. “The verdict is clear: this platform exposes our children, our young people, toxic, dangerous and addictive content,” said Arthur Delaport, president of the commission. The parliamentarians advocate, among other things, the prohibition of social networks before the age of 15.
