“That’s a lot of bananas.” After more than 5 billion AI image edits, Nano Banana is gaining momentum. Behind this fun nickname hides the code name of the artificial intelligence model “Gemini 2.5 Flash Image” developed by Google DeepMind.
It is a powerful and free AI image generation and editing tool, capable of creating and modifying images from simple textual instructions, with great precision and creativity. Launched globally in early October after a testing phase, Gemini 2.5 Flash Image will now strengthen several Google services.
This AI model, dedicated to the generation and editing of images and already used several billion times, will be integrated into Google Lens, AI Mode (in countries where the service is available, that is, almost everywhere, but not in France) and NotebookLM, the company indicated in a blog post published this Monday, October 13, 2025. Its arrival is also planned for Google Photos, with no calendar communicated at the moment.
Integrated directly with Google Lens
The most notable novelty therefore concerns Google Lens, where a banana-shaped “Create” button allows you to easily edit a taken or selected image using text commands. This feature provides a conversational flow for fine-tuning edits or creating images from scratch, making editing more accessible and intuitive.
Nano Banana also enhances NotebookLM by adding artistic video styles to visually summarize documents and is also preparing for a release on Google Photos to make conversational image editing more fluid and efficient.
In summary, image generation using artificial intelligence becomes an integrated functionality of the search engine, easily accessible without having to leave the Google ecosystem.
