Almost two years after its launch, Apple’s Vision Pro is getting a refresh. After renewing its Macbook Pro and iPad Pro, the American giant has announced a new version of its mixed reality headsets, the main change of which is that it benefits from the latest M5 chip to offer better performance.
This way, users will enjoy an “even faster, smoother, and more responsive” experience, Apple promises in a press release, with shorter loading times for apps and widgets and even more responsive navigation.
The new chip will also improve the precision of Vision Pro images, with a 10% higher pixel count than the first generation in exclusive micro-OLED displays. Added to this is an increase in the refresh rate, which could reach 120 Hz (compared to 100 Hz for the first Vision Pro) and thus reduce directional blur when users look at their surroundings.
Better autonomy and greater comfort
Still working with the R1 chip to process data from cameras, sensors and microphones, the new Vision Pro can also last longer according to Apple. It would go from a maximum autonomy of 2 hours of general use (in the first generation) to 2h30 on a single charge. And 2:30 to 3 hours for video playback.
Longer battery life that comes with a new headband to encourage users to wear the mixed reality headset for longer. In fact, Apple promises greater comfort with a double-strap woven headband, available in three sizes (S, M and L) and which is also compatible with the first Vision Pro. As its name suggests, it is made up of two straps, the lower of which is “equipped with flexible fabric ribs that incorporate tungsten inserts that act as counterweights for greater comfort, balance and stability.” It can be purchased separately, at a price of 115 euros.
Running visionOS 26, Vision Pro M5 supports over a million apps. Among them are many games with a better visual and sound experience, according to Apple, thanks to high-resolution screens, low latency or even “an advanced Spatial Audio system.”
Available for pre-order starting this Wednesday, October 15, the Vision Pro M5 will be officially launched on October 22, with a price starting at 3,699 euros, or 300 euros less than the previous model.
