It was through a simple press release and not a conference that Apple presented its new iPad Pro this Wednesday, October 15. The big news comes from the M5 chip, presented as “a breakthrough in AI performance.”
With this iPad Pro, Apple promises AI performance up to 3.5 times faster than the previous model for a variety of tasks, including generating images from apps like Draw Things. The M5 chip also allows you to run visually intensive applications and games, with 3D rendering up to 1.5 times faster than the iPad Pro M4 thanks to a third-generation ray tracing engine that offers more realism.
Improved performance
The iPad Pro M5 also owes its performance to an increase in unified memory bandwidth, with more than 150 GB/s (almost 30% more than its predecessor, which was 120 GB/s), which also ensures smoother multitasking. The read and write speeds of the storage system have also doubled. In terms of autonomy, it is compatible with fast charging, to have up to 50% charge in about thirty minutes (only with a 70 W USB-C power adapter).
The iPad Pro M5 also benefits from improvements in cellular connectivity. In fact, it is equipped with the latest C1X modem, which offers faster data transfer speeds (up to 50% compared to the iPad Pro M4) and consumes less power (up to 30% less).
The new tablet is also equipped with the N1 chip, which supports Wifi 7, Bluetooth 6 and the Thread protocol (useful in the world of home automation). It makes the iPad Pro more efficient overall while also improving the reliability of features like Airdrop.
Same design for a lower price.
In terms of design, the iPad Pro M5 does not change. It’s just as thin as its predecessor, whether in the 11-inch (5.3 mm) or 13-inch (5.1 mm) model. On the front we find an Ultra Retina XDR screen equipped with tandem OLED technology, with a brightness of up to 1,000 nits in SDR and 1,600 nits in HDR (peak). Apple still offers a nano-textured glass screen to limit reflections as an option, only on models that offer 1 or 2 TB of storage.
Available in space black and silver, the iPad Pro M5 can be pre-ordered starting this Wednesday and will be on sale starting October 22.
