The PS5 was already released two years ago. Time flies, but the shortage persists: it is almost always just as difficult to find a PS5 in stock in 2022. It is true that the situation has improved a bit on the component shortage side. Demand is still very strong and stocks are always under a lot of pressure, so available copies sell out very quickly. We could have imagined a clear improvement, and unfortunately this is not the case.

If you want a PS5 under the tree, you’ll still have to fight hard, but all is not lost. Stock status isn’t quite as critical yet as it was when it came out of console, and by looking carefully, installing alert mechanisms, and not neglecting any source, you can put the odds on your side for getting a console.
PS5: what are the differences between the digital version and the standard version?
The PS5 is available in two versions: digital and standard. It’s not the only manufacturer to offer two versions of its console, but Sony’s approach is different. In fact, there is one main difference between the two versions: the presence or not of a Blu-ray player. The Standard version, which is offered at 549.99 euros after an increase in its public price in Europe, has this player. This allows for two interesting uses, starting with compatibility with physical support games. If you purchased PS5 or PS4 games from the store, all discs can be played on your PS5. Be careful though: this is not the case for PS3 or older games. The player can also play DVDs, Blu-rays, and UHD Blu-rays, but not audio CDs.
The digital PS5 does not have a reader, so it is thinner. The rest of the console’s features are similar: the capacity of the SSD, the power of the console, the compatibility with PS4 games in digital version or streaming services such as Netflix or Disney +. The PS5 Digital is offered today at 449.99 euros.
Stock PS5: our top tips for buying the Sony console
The PS5 is certainly hard to find in stock, but it’s not impossible to find your console by following a few tips. The first thing that can be done is to sign up for all the email alerts that you can take advantage of. On all commercial sites, on sites specializing in good deals, on the invitation page offered by Amazon, sign up to receive a notification of the arrival of consoles in stock.
If the site allows it, which is not always the case with a sold out product, add the PS5 upstream in the basket. This will significantly speed up the order process.
Also, be sure to fill out your up-to-date banking information beforehand on all sites where you’re likely to buy a PS5. Again, the goal is to minimize the number of clicks required to validate your order.
When should the stock status be checked? Generally, rather in the morning. This is the best time because it is usually at this time that console stocks are renewed.
It is also recommended to prefer a PC over a smartphone for research and, hopefully, ordering. Why ? Because it’s easier and faster to reload a page on a PC browser, and frequent updates are another key!
Finally, do not neglect any merchant. Certainly the most well-known e-commerce sites are important, but other less specialized sites may have stock. If there is a video game department, there may be PS5!
