Death threats, rape threats, pornographic montages… Streamer Ultia has been the victim of cyberbullying on Twitch for two years. She filed a complaint for a wave of harassment that she suffered at the end of October, this is what she revealed in an interview with media part.
On November 19, a soccer competition took place that brought together French and Spanish streamers. Streamer Ponce announced through a tweet a few days before the launch of the event that the invited personalities had already had sexist comments or behavior. “People wanted to connect with me by saying that I was at the origin of these complaints,” Ultia specified to Médiapart. A wave of cyberbullying followed. So she decided to file a complaint.
As she describes it, cyberbullying comes in different forms: incursions into comments on her Twitch stream, waves of insults in her Instagram posts or in private messages… She also receives “rape and death threats.” The streamer is also the victim of many pornographic montages. As soon as he wears a tank top or low-cut outfit, he’s insulted as he says “I’m working. I had to put all my networks on private.”
It began in 2021 when he denounced the macho behavior of the streamer Inoxtag, the latter apologized and called on his community not to harass the young woman “but unfortunately that was not enough,” Ultia retains.
In January 2022, a streamer was banned for harassment on a streamer’s channel. “Everyone came to insult me on my Twitch channel and then in private to say it was my fault (…) I was going to Zevent 2022 as if I were going to the slaughterhouse.”
This is not the first time Ultia has filed a complaint. “I filed a complaint last year against a very insistent bystander, he insulted me and threatened me with violence.” Today she observes the fact that some programs are reluctant to invite her because of the comments and harassment.
The streamer said to herself tiredly: “I feel that it is endless and will never end.” For her, the Twitch platform “did not realize the seriousness of the situation.” They expect streamers to moderate chat “but it’s an expectation, not an obligation. I find it very serious.”
“Today we can insult women, and without denouncing nothing will happen.” She has the impression of a “sword in the water”. He also denounces the conditions under which deposits are deposited and processed from certain streamers, some of whom have not been heard from since.
On the other hand, he stresses that the government is “listening, even if it is too late on the issue.” She hopes this shakes things up.
