HyLight wants to revolutionize aerial imaging with hydrogen-powered aircraft

The company aims to make infrastructure operations more virtuous. Against the helicopter, HyLight wants to impose the hydrogen aircraft to examine rails and power lines.

Passionate about aeronautics, Théo Hoenen quickly became aware of the pollution generated by his main sector. So he turned to a low-impact solution. By creating HyLight, the 22-year-old entrepreneur wants to make aerial photography greener thanks to hydrogen-powered blimps.

Accuracy, payload and range

HyLight is thus aimed at infrastructure operators. The goal is to be able to quickly locate a fault along a rail, power line or pipeline, covering several hundred kilometers.

The airship thus appears as a more sustainable alternative. Because today, there is no drone capable of gathering the necessary precision, payload and autonomy. “Us [présente] a bit like being the only drone that has no compromises”, says Théo Hoenen.

HyLight aircraft can last up to 20 hours in the air, travel 600 kilometers, integrate up to 10 kilograms of payload (thermal camera, lidar or others) and have the ability to float. All powered by hydrogen.

HyLight has already produced four flying prototypes and is tackling the construction of two paid proofs of concept with two large infrastructure operators: Enedis, which manages the electricity network in France, and Snam, the main Italian gas transport company.
