Meta considered two options to prevent young people from accessing its dating service: age estimation through a selfie or uploading an ID. Selfie analysis is the subject of a partnership between the Meta group and the company Yoti, which specializes in the subject.
Almost two years
Yoti uses artificial intelligence to analyze the video selfies of users of Meta services. Therefore, the age of a person is estimated within two years. The objective is then to classify them into three categories (under 13, under 18 or over 25) to give them access or not to a service.
Meta ensures that the experience has proven to be very effective on Instagram. Since June, 96% of adolescents who have tried to change their date of birth have been prevented after analyzing their face. Age verification is becoming a real problem for platforms, as a study has shown that one in two British children lie about their age to access certain services.
