The National Commission of Informatics and Liberties (Cnil) sanctioned this Thursday the telephone operator Free with a fine of 300,000 euros for not having respected “the rights of people” and the “security of data” of its users.
She cites the examples of “weak robustness” of passwords, of “clear storage and transmission” of passwords, or even the “recirculation” of around 4,100 “badly refurbished” Freeboxes.
The announcement of this important sanction of 300,000 euros, which takes into account “the size and economic situation of the company”, is justified by “the need to remember the importance of responding to requests for rights of people and ensuring the user data”, the Commission also stressed.
Last January, the subsidiary of the Iliad group had already been sanctioned by the Cnil with a fine of 300,000 euros for similar reasons.
