In the United States, Disney+ integrates ads and increases its prices

The streaming platform launched its offer with ads in the United States on December 8. Unlike its competitor Netflix, Disney+ is taking the opportunity to increase its prices.

It is a poisoned gift that Disney + offered to its subscribers this holiday season. In the United States, customers of the video-on-demand service can continue to watch their show at the same price. Except that from December 8, the basic offer includes ads.

No reduction of the entrance price

After becoming a leader in streaming, the Disney group (which includes Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+) has copied its rival’s strategy. Since November 3, Netflix offers its users a formula that includes advertising. Compared to a maximum of 4 to 5 minutes of ads per hour, the pioneer in the sector makes its catalog accessible at a more attractive price: 5.99 euros compared to 8.99 euros.

But in the case of Disney+, the addition of advertising is not intended to lower its price of admission. On the contrary. Previously set at $7.99, the service remains at the same price while US customers will be forced to view ads.

The platform now charges its ad-free offer at $10.99. It’s three dollars more for the same service. No indication of generalization of advertising-supported offers has been formalized. Therefore, the French market remains, for the moment, safe.
