Not being able to use your phone, computer, or tablet for several hours. What seems like a nightmare to some could well become a reality in early 2023.
Temporary and specific power outages could well occur for periods of two hours in localized areas. Cuts that would impact both Internet access and mobile networks. The Orange operator, however, announced on its website that its users would have a slight breather before a total cut.
20 minute reprieve with backup batteries
In the event of a power outage, users of the Orange network will benefit from an additional 20 minutes of electricity. This instant bonus network is made possible by backup batteries placed on the antennas of the mobile operator. Orange is the only operator in France to benefit from batteries of this type.
However, the holder will not be able to perform miracles for a long time.
Some companies were saved
If people will have to wait two hours before getting back to normal, some professionals may be saved. Businesses with batteries for the Livebox Pro and a generator will be able to take advantage of telephone and Internet services without difficulty.
After each outage, Orange claims that between 80% and 85% of mobile antennas will restart “automatically and autonomously”. For the rest of the antennas, the intervention of a technician may be necessary. Therefore, the return to normality will take longer for certain areas.
However, in case of load shedding, residents will be notified 3 days before the deadline. Outages, if they occur, should last “only” a maximum of two hours, before a gradual return.
