In his message posted on Breach Forums, a kind of marketplace often used to sell illegally obtained data, the hacker indicated that the data of celebrities, political figures, companies and individuals was in his possession.
Elon Musk forced to pay
The hacker, however, says that he will not reveal the data to anyone. His goal is quite different: to make Elon Musk pay.
The hacker thus plays with the risk that Elon Musk runs with the European Commission if this loss of data of 400 million users continues. “You already risk a fine for the GDPR for a data leak of 5.4 million Internet users. Imagine the fine for 400 million users”, recalls the hacker.
He then claims that the best option for Elon Musk to avoid paying a $276 million fine (which would appear to be a calculated conversion based on the fine received by Facebook and its 533 million users with stolen data) is to pay to get this data back. .
To back up his request and prove that it’s not a scam, the hacker even revealed several names of celebrities affected by the flaw, as shown in a screenshot recovered by the Hudson Rock account.
Thus we find the email addresses and other data of Donald Trump, SpaceX, the World Health Organization or the US representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. However, it is impossible to say if the hacker has the data of the mentioned 400 million users.
For the moment, Elon Musk has not reacted to this ultimatum.
