YouTube now demonetizes videos with swear words

Several YouTubers have replaced profanity with censorship sounds in the edit to avoid demonetization. The platform would have strengthened its inappropriate content detection tool.

This is a rule that content creators on YouTube may very well dislike. The online video platform seems to have beefed up its voice recognition tool, penalizing all creators who dare to use harsh language.

Therefore, several YouTubers had to undergo a deeper analysis of their post-shooting content, to remove all profanity. Thus, Squeezie, Linca or Djilsi replaced the few “shit” or “damn” in their latest videos with censorship beeps or animal noises.

retroactive regulation

But if the creators want to keep all their earnings, they’ll also have to rework their old videos. According to youtuber Terracid, the new YouTube rule would be retroactive and would even demonetize old videos.

Streamer Aypierre even claims that certain words would also be prohibited, even if they are not obscene language. The terms “rican” (for “American”) or “bled” would thus have generated demonetizations.

However, YouTube’s rules don’t appear to have changed. In its rules, the platform has previously indicated that content could be subject to an age limit, be removed or have a warning if there was excessive use of vulgar language.

But it seems that the vulgar language detection bot has been strengthened a bit and has developed towards languages other than English. However, the censorship accusations against YouTube are not recent. In July 2021, the famous Joueur du Grenier already claimed that some of his videos had been demonetized for the use of words considered vulgar, such as “buttocks” or “piss”.
