The ChatGPT tool, developed by OpenAI and endowed with artificial intelligence, is also misused by hackers. Check Point Research researchers believe the tool can help cybercriminals enhance or create malware and ransomware code.
The research team published the results of their work on January 6, stating that they had detected numerous messages on dark web forums in which cybercriminals exchanged methods on creating malware with the help of ChatGPT. What concerns researchers above all is the fact that ChatGPT helps cybercrime novices understand the world of computer code.
“It is still too early to decide whether or not ChatGPT’s capabilities will become hackers’ new favorite tool,” the researchers say. “However, the cybercriminal community has already shown great interest and is investing in this latest trend to generate malicious code.”
simple solutions
Researchers have tried on their own to develop malware produced by ChatGPT. Without writing a single line of code, they generated a phishing email. They were also able to create an Excel file trapped in an email from scratch, without any notion of computer code.
Although the ChatGPT terms prohibit its use for illegal or malicious purposes, the researchers had no problem modifying their queries to circumvent these restrictions.
And ChatGPT is not ready to be stopped since, depending on the media traffic lightMicrosoft could invest 10,000 million dollars in the tool to enter the capital of OpenAI.
