Russia announced Wednesday that the Soyuz capsule, currently attached to the International Space Station, and which suffered a refrigerant leak in December last year, will return to Earth without a crew. A rocket will be sent up on February 20 so that the team of astronauts on board can also return.
“Experts have concluded that the Soyuz MS-22 has to return to Earth without a crew,” said the Russian space agency Roscosmos, quoted by AFP, confirming that the liquid leak was caused by the “impact of a small cosmic object “.
At the station are Russian astronauts Sergey Prokopyev, Dmitri Petelin and Anna Kikina, NASA’s Frank Rubio Nicole Mann and Josh Cassada, and Koichi Wakata of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.
