Microsoft has a big fish in the net and it has no intention of letting it get away. According to information from the Semafor site, the parent company of Windows could invest 10 billion dollars in the next fundraising planned by OpenAI.
The startup, which developed the Dall-E image generator and the ChatGPT chatbot, would thus sell 49% of its capital to Microsoft, which would become its largest shareholder. The rest of the capital would be divided among other investors while OpenAI, a company with limited profits according to its statutes, would keep only 2% of the values.
No business model yet
Also according to Semafor, Microsoft would collect 75% of the startup’s profits until it recovers its investment. The amount of promised profits after this threshold is not known, but the deal would at least have the merit of securing the job of OpenAI, while rivals like Google could try to thwart the deal.
In total, future fundraising should value the startup at $29 billion, a significant sum for a company that does not yet have an economic model, in a difficult context for the technology sector.
Still, Microsoft intends to take advantage of OpenAi’s advances in artificial intelligence, three years after an initial billion-dollar investment in start-ups: the Bing search engine, but also flagship Windows software like Word. or Outlook, you could quickly benefit from the power of ChatGPT. .
