The digital success of certain tweets could soon become a source of income. Twitter is reportedly about to introduce Coins, a way to reward post authors based on their success. Like the bits on Twitch -a virtual currency that a viewer distributes to streamers at will-, a user of the social network will be able to grant “coins” to the publications that they appreciate.
No indication of the price of the coin
The future option was revealed by security researcher Jane Manchun Wong, says Mashable. She posted several images of the device, which differs from the “Super Follow”, a kind of subscription to a Twitter account. Thus we learn that a list of distinctions is proposed. Depending on the number of coins awarded, posts will be assigned ranks ranging from “Awesome” for one coin to “Gold” for 5000 coins.
In order to distribute these reward tokens, you will first need to purchase them. To do this, the application redirects to the Stripe payment platform, indicates the Decrypt site. Despite its name, the Twitter feature will not be tied to bitcoin. Jane Manchun Wong at least did not see any mention of any cryptocurrency. However, the Decrypt platform accepts cryptocurrency payments.
On the other hand, no information about the redistribution of the coins has been leaked. The price of a compensation token is unknown, as is the part that Twitter plans to take. Because the implementation of the Coins function is part of the plan that aims to make the social network profitable under the leadership of Elon Musk.
