Twitter now offers an annual subscription to obtain its paid certification at a reduced price

A new option has appeared to subscribe to Twitter Blue. It is now possible to obtain its benefits, including the famous blue badge, for a whole year at a reduced price.

It’s a classic proposition: subscribe to a service for a year in exchange for a price reduction. However, until very recently, Twitter did not have this option. This is now done with the appearance of an annual subscription to Twitter Blue. As The Verge indicates, the purchase for a whole year of Twitter’s paid offer was not presented before this January 18 in the platform support site.

The Twitter Blue redesign has been one of Elon Musk’s top projects since he took over the company at the end of October 2022. This option, offered at $8 a month (or $11 for users of an Apple product) , gives access to a certification badge. Originally intended to prevent identity theft, this distinction is now synonymous with better visibility of your posts within the app’s search and recommendation thread.

Up to 36% savings per year

From now on, it is possible to purchase your blue plate for the next twelve months against the sum of 84 dollars. That’s a savings of $12 over the year compared to a monthly subscription, or about a 12% reduction in total. On the other hand, for Apple users, this option could be a game changer.

To offset the 30% tax applicable to any in-app purchase from the App Store, the subscription fee has been increased. Thus, Twitter sees its benefits identical regardless of the means used to subscribe to its payment offer. What makes that an annual subscription generates for these users a saving of 48 dollars a year, that is to say, approximately a 36% saving.

Since his brief but intense conflict with the Apple brand, Elon Musk invites iPhone or iPad owners to use a web browser to pay for their Twitter Blue subscription. But the arrival of an annual option could be the most powerful argument.

However, the Twitter Blue service is currently only available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
