Arousing thousands of reactions online, one American father said out loud: “I can’t take it anymore.” The photos to love, the stories to laugh at, the anecdotes to be ecstatic… in short, the day-to-day life of a family WhatsApp group. And for those like him who can’t take it anymore, here are three ways to stop being hassled.
• Leave the group (discreetly)
Inevitably, this is the most radical method. Just click on the group title and then click “Leave Group”. Previously, this maneuver frankly lacked discretion since the entire group was informed of his departure. Since the October 2022 update, only group admins are reported (remember to update your app).
• Silence notifications and archive chat
If leaving a family group is diplomatically tricky, you can simply mute notifications from the group. You will no longer hear from the group (although it will still exist in your app). You can then archive the discussion so that it no longer appears directly in the groups column but in the “Archived” folder.
To mute notifications, simply click on the group name, then select “Notifications in silent mode” and then “Always”.
To archive (or unarchive) the group, you need to click the down arrow next to the group name (or right-click) in the left column. Then select “Archive Chat”.
• Slam the door (more or less polite)
What if the best method was to assume his departure? You can announce that you are leaving a group so that you no longer want to be bothered, like the American family man.
You can also find a good excuse not to hurt anyone: and that’s good, the month of January is the time for good resolutions. Specifically, spending less time on your smartphone…
