To go with your new Nintendo Switch, you may want to add a subscription to enjoy multiple options, online play, additional titles, or discounts. For that, there is the Nintendo Switch Online. We explain everything you need to know about it.
· Who can benefit from the subscription?
Owners of Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Oled, and Nintendo Lite can purchase the Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) subscription. Then simply access the dedicated space of your console to benefit from all the advantages.
For a monthly or annual cost, it allows you to play online with your friends or other players in titles like Super Smash Bros, Splatoon 3, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe either Animal Crossing: New Horizons and many more. Being an NSO subscriber also allows you to backup your games in the cloud, access free demos, exclusive offers, retrogaming games.
Therefore, certain exclusive games are only accessible to subscribers, like Tetris 99 or Pac-Man 99. But you also need to be a subscriber to be able to buy certain exclusive controllers for the old NES, Super NES, N64 and Mega Drive.
What does the Additional Pack extension bring?
As an option to the basic offer, Nintendo has enabled an additional subscription, the “Extra Pack”. As the name suggests, it takes advantage of the NSO subscription and adds multiple options. Specifically, there is a very extensive catalog of nintendo classics 64 (Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, Banjo-Kazoie…) and in particular the following Golden Eye 007 that arrives on January 27 or pokemon stadium 2.
Nintendo has also partnered with SEGA to recover a good twenty titles that delighted the Mega Drive, a great rival to home consoles in the 90s (Streets of Rage 2, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Ecco the Dolphin, Mega Man: The Wily Wars…).
Both catalogs are intended to be enriched. Some titles can also be played online with friends. And they especially benefit from an option that didn’t exist before: the ability to go back to play a sequence (by pressing ZL+ZR).
And the advantage of the NSO+ Additional Pack is also to take advantage of the free game extensions: the 48 remastered circuits of mario kart 8 deluxe that arrive periodically (6 batches of 8 circuits should arrive in 2023), the expansion happy home paradise ofanimal crossing either Octo-Expansion to splatoon 2 they are already understood. Others will be added for house games.
To register, simply go to website from Nintendo or via the Nintendo Switch Online mobile app (iOS and Android). There you will have to choose between an individual or family subscription (up to 8 accounts).
The subscription starts at 3.99 euros for a month and a single account. It will cost 7.99 euros per quarter and 19.99 euros per year. For a family subscription, the annual cost is 34.99 euros.
For the NSO+Pack additional subscription, the bill is obviously higher: €39.99 for one person per year, €69.99 for a family pack.
And the NSO app?
The application allows you to manage your friends, find out if they are online and what game they are playing, to possibly launch joint games. But it’s also possible, for certain specific home games, to chat with friends, take a look at your game stats, or even download maps created by other players in games like Super Smash Bros. for example. The user can also define his status from the application and share his friend code.
