Getting banned from Twitter can happen to anyone. But understanding the reason and finding your account can sometimes become a real headache. The Twitter account dedicated to the security of the social network had also pointed out last December that certain permanent suspensions were “disproportionate”. For this reason, the service has implemented new measures aimed at simplifying and moderating the decisions made by the platform.
Starting February 1, suspended accounts will be able to appeal their judgment and be reassessed to get their account back. Twitter has also indicated that for certain petty crimes, tweets may be limited to a restricted audience. The social network can also ask the offending user to simply delete their tweet to get their account back.
No leniency for serious offenses
However, Twitter is not going to be lenient with all guilty users. “We have not restored accounts that were engaged in illegal activities, threats of violence, large-scale scams or manipulation,” the social network explained in one of its tweets.
The social network, however, did not indicate whether issues related to freedom of expression, a broad topic that led to several suspensions of accounts, were or not a serious breach of its rules.
