It was a privilege he had always accepted. On Friday, January 27, Frédéric Molas called to order Internet users to use his content. For several months, videographer Joueur du Grenier has been annoyed by reruns of excerpts from his broadcasts on Twitch. Therefore, he gave the owners of his music video channels 48 hours to remove their content from YouTube.
These clips are notably used by other channels to rack up subscribers easily. With the help of a seductive thumbnail and a suggestive title, the goal is above all to get views without worrying about correctly or fully transcribing a videographer’s words.
A growing phenomenon
Known for his character Joueur du Grenier, an embittered tester of retro video games, Frédéric Molas has been posting videos on YouTube, with his friend Sébastien Rassiat, since September 2009. He then created a streaming channel on Twitch in the summer of 2014.
Only problem, the phenomenon has multiplied in recent months. Some YouTube channels simply seek to take advantage of the platform’s monetization system. This interference is regularly done to the detriment of the words of the cameramen, who see their phrase cut, shortened and too often taken out of context.
During his Sunday broadcasts, the videographer spends several hours chatting with his viewers. Therefore, he is risky to summarize long speeches in a few seconds. A few weeks ago, Frédéric Molas paid the price for these intentional or clumsy cuts intended mainly to create noise.
truncated words
In a video posted by a clip chain, Frédéric Molas’s words were cut short when he explained the disparities that could exist between viewer communities. So he was surprised to get along very well with Billy (the creator of RebeuDeter), but to see no link between his community and his colleague’s community.
This is where the clip chain problem comes into play. In the face of cutbacks imposed by the format, the transcribed comments seemed offensive to Billy’s viewers. Frédéric Molas even had to clarify his statements during a popular program on the Twitch platform: Popcorn.
These inconveniences pushed the videographer to crack down. With the given period of 48 hours having elapsed, now is the time to sort and verify. If the clips persist on YouTube, Frédéric Molas said he would “forcefully delete them.” However, an exception was granted to the Fat Giorno chain.
“Once we’ve cleaned up,” clearances will be granted on a case-by-case basis to certain channels to properly resume clips from Joueur du Grenier’s Twitch streams. In addition to his best-of channel, the idea of creating a channel dedicated to clip covers is also being considered.
