Following the GPS directions, in some cases, is not the best thing to do. At least not with Google Maps. In fact, Google’s navigation and maps service has caused some mishaps for the inhabitants of the interior of Nice. Some street lights, for example, have been damaged, not to mention flat tires from trucks and damaged cars.
The reason? A bad route indicated by Google Maps that forces vehicles, especially trucks, to go through towns like Villars-sur-Var and narrow roads not suitable for trucks.
A security breach
In addition to making extra kilometers for drivers, this detour chosen by Google Maps (a problem at a junction between two cities) has especially overloaded the often unstable and fragile mountain roads. The trucks were thus blocked on roads where they should not be and in passages through which they could not circulate.
Another problem, denounced by the town hall of Villars-sur-Var: Google Maps indicates that it is mandatory to go through a tunnel… closed to traffic for works until June 2024. The signs indicating the diversion and the prohibition were however fine positioned, but that did not prevent certain vehicles from coming face to face with vehicles respecting the good sense of traffic.
No changes to Google yet
Still according to the city council, Google has still been made aware of the situation, but has not yet made any changes.
Contacted by BFMTV, Google has yet to respond.
