Netflix (temporarily) cancels its rules that sanction account sharing

The platform had announced several measures to counter account sharing, before removing them from its FAQ a few hours later.

Snow coast or communication error? In any case, Netflix has (temporarily) backtracked on its account sharing rules by pulling back the additions made to its FAQ a few days ago. Earlier in the week, the streaming platform had announced that it would restrict access to the catalog to only so-called “trusted” devices.

The FAQ on Netflix’s official website stated that users who use a smartphone to watch their content would be forced to launch the streaming app from their home Wi-Fi network at least once a month, to avoid being blocked. Therefore, the system was intended to penalize customers who shared their account with a third party who lived outside their home.

Rules applied in Latin America

According to a Netflix spokesperson, these new rules exist, but at the moment not in the United States or France.

After a short-lived change, the Netflix France help center shows the same rules as before. Please note that a simple approval from the account holder is necessary for other people outside the household to watch movies and series.

Netflix wanting at all costs to hunt down account squatters to pay their own bill, there is no doubt that these new rules will finally reach French devices.
