This is a new milestone reached by Apple: the symbolic bar of the two billion active devices in the world. The announcement was made by Apple CEO Tim Cook during the presentation of the giant’s latest results.
There are 200 million more listed products compared to January 2022. At that time, the American company had broken sales records. But this good news hides a drop in Apple sales and, more generally, in its turnover.
Sales below expectations
Indeed, Apple posted quarterly results on Thursday that were down year-over-year and below expectations. The company’s revenue was $117.1 billion, down 5.4% from a year earlier for the October-December period.
During the press conference, Tim Cook gave three reasons to explain this drop: exchange rates, the disruption of production in China due to the Covid19 pandemic and the “difficult macroeconomic” context linked to inflation and the war in Ukraine. . According to Apple’s CFO Luca Maestri, sales should accelerate during the second quarter.
Apple remains in any case still far from the competition. Google announced in 2021 that 3 billion Android devices were active worldwide.
