Twitter: certification could be very expensive for companies

The social network plans to charge companies for certification. Gold badges have replaced blue badges for corporations to prevent usurpation.

After individuals, soon companies will also have to check out. In an internal mail presented by consultant Matt Navarra, Twitter reveals that a monthly payment of $1,000 is required to earn a gold certification badge. This distinction is reserved for businesses and limits the risk of identity theft. It was introduced after a big mess in November.

Affiliate badges charged at $50

The email appears to come from a business exchange between a professional and the Twitter teams. Twitter’s product manager, Evan Jones, indicates that a new offer for companies is now available, details The Verge.

The “verification for organizations” program is a new version of the “Blue for business” system. Introduced in December 2022, it is about giving business accounts more visibility by giving them a gold badge. But this subscription also gives employees linked to this company a membership badge, costing $50 each.

Affiliate badges are small squares with a company’s profile image on them. They are placed next to the user’s name, similar to certification badges. By clicking on it, users are redirected directly to the account of the company in question.

Changing Twitter’s business model

The device is also visible in evan jones accountas in all the accounts of people who work at Twitter.

This device is a new lever for Twitter to raise funds. Since taking control of the company, Elon Musk has promised to change the economic model of the social network. While most of his income previously came from ads, the billionaire is betting on subscriptions to monetize the platform.

It is within this framework that the Twitter Blue service has been redesigned to provide paid certification, among other benefits, for the sum of eight dollars a month. In France, this option is available from February 3. Tech&Co also explains how to take advantage of Twitter Blue at a reduced price.

At the moment, no information has been released about the already certified companies. As has been the case with individuals, there’s a good chance these accounts will keep their gold badge without payment. On the other hand, the affiliation badges are not included in the current certification of the companies.
