A sauerkraut, a kebab, a bouillabaisse or even a tartiflette. So many dishes that the French love and that are often the subject of illustrations on restaurant menus. But it will be increasingly difficult for customers to know if the images are real or if they are simply the result of artificial intelligence.
As reported by the US site Business Insider, the software company for restaurateurs Lunchbox has joined forces with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. It has put online a dedicated and free tool that allows any Internet user to create a flat photo, in a few seconds.
175 million snapshots generated
On the platform, all you have to do is enter a recipe name, then optionally a background and illustration style. To assess the relevance of the system, Tech&Co presented the four emblematic dishes mentioned above, adding different settings (Paris, Marseille or even a traditional restaurant for the tartiflette). With a result (below) for the less convincing.
The creators of the tool specify that it is based on Dall-E technology, another famous OpenAI artificial intelligence, capable of generating any image from a description of the Internet user. This simplified interface, specially designed for the description of dishes, has the advantage of making its operation much more accessible.
Since its launch at the end of January, the platform has generated 175 million images of dishes, without being able to determine the number of “fake” images used by catering professionals.
