Google, Youtube, Facebook and… Pornhub. Here is the ranking in order of the most visited sites in the world in 2022. With more than 2 billion unique visitors per month, the porn giant well deserved its documentary on Netflix.
Therefore, the result will be visible on March 15 on the platform. Directed and produced by a female team, Money Shot: The Pornhub Story will return to the turbulent history of the sulphide site, created in 2007.
Owned by MindGeek, a multinational pornography company that owns many websites, Pornhub has “fundamentally changed the way pornography is made and distributed,” Netflix comments in its press release, broadcast by Variety.
“Provoking debate”
The platform has “enabled content creators to reach large audiences” while “earning billions of dollars,” Netflix said. But Pornhub is also regularly accused of hosting stolen videos, serving as revenge porn, or fueling traffic of all kinds.
Actresses, activists, former employees… the film promises numerous testimonials.
Towards a blocking of the site in France?
In France, Pornhub and several other pornographic platforms are involved in a political and judicial fight to avoid the blocking. The law of July 30, 2020 establishes that a simple declaration of majority is no longer enough to enter a pornographic site.
On February 15, Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister Delegate in charge of Digital, announced that trials for a “double anonymity” age verification solution will be launched in March.
In practice, a third-party site could be used to verify the identity and especially the age of an Internet user who then wishes to visit sites prohibited for minors. In theory, this third-party site will prevent porn sites from storing personal data about their many visitors.
