Fake contest emails, package delivery or medical appointments: if you have had this anthology of messages in your Outlook mailbox, it is normal, or almost.
Sure enough, Microsoft’s mail service suffered an outage for several hours worldwide, preventing spam redirection in users’ spam. All the emails ended up in the main inbox.
Many netizens affected
On Twitter, many users of the service have expressed their incomprehension of this influx of spam. Because in addition to being annoying, these emails can be dangerous because they are associated with phishing attempts and scams.
However, Microsoft appears to have resolved the issue based on its services activity page, without giving any further information on the reasons for this outage.
“We have identified the source of the issue and have taken steps to resolve it. We will continue to monitor to ensure the issue remains mitigated,” the company said. Several Microsoft services, including Outlook, had already crashed at the end of January, following a network configuration problem.
