Mercedes-Benz has partnered with Google to equip its cars with automatic driving sensors and “supercomputer-equivalent technology” in navigation to compete with Tesla.
According to a statement released by the German manufacturer, Google Maps data will be used to support the assisted driving system, allowing, for example, automatic speed adjustments before intersections, roundabouts or curves.
The new cars will also use Google’s geospatial technology, which includes detailed location information and real-time traffic information and forecasts that will enable automatic rerouting.
Autonomous driving sensor maker Luminar Technologies, in which Mercedes has a small stake, also announced on Wednesday that it has closed a multi-billion dollar deal with the automaker to integrate its sensors into a wide range of vehicles by mid-decade. .
Thanks to the partnership with Google, Mercedes drivers will also be able to watch YouTube videos on the car’s entertainment system when parked or in Level 3 autonomous driving mode, which allows the driver to take their eyes off the wheel on certain roads. . , provided they can regain control if necessary.

All cars on Mercedes’ upcoming modular architecture platform will also be able to be fitted with so-called “hyperscreens”, which stretch the length of the car’s cabin, Reuters writes.
In the future, Mercedes hopes to use artificial intelligence systems and automatic reading from the Google cloud.
