An eye on the future. This is a bit of the message transmitted by the Honor Magic5 Pro presented by the Chinese manufacturer on Monday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (Spain). Honor has introduced its new premium standard bearer that is clearly moving up to compete with the top of the range from Apple, Samsung or other Xiaomi and Oppo.
As with its previous models, Honor has retained its iconic round photo module at the back. Because while retaining its roundness, the camera, the heart of the device, has a triple photographic module with three 50 Mpx sensors each (wide angle, ultra wide angle and telephoto lens) to offer true versatility. With a larger lens, the brand promises that your device will capture much more light, to offer much more detail in the shots, especially in low light conditions.
New Theoretical Champion
The brand also advances in taking pictures faster by pressing the shutter button so you don’t miss the important moment, even at night. For moving photos (sports, moving child, animal to follow, etc.), Honor relies on artificial intelligence to automatically detect the highest point of a jump, for example. What to boast of having inherited the first place awarded by DXOMARK, the laboratory specialized in smartphone camera tests with a score of 152.
The Honor Magic5 Pro also plays the card of elegance with a double-curved chassis, which accompanies it so that this rather slim smartphone fits better in the hand (7.8 mm). The round module at the back has the merit of changing the square or rectangular blocks of the moment. Positioned at the rear, it will probably also be more stable than many of its competitors.
The Honor Magic5 Pro incorporates a 6.81-inch AMOLED screen, which also ranks No. 1 in DXOMARK for display quality. It has a maximum HDR brightness of 1800 nits, with greater color accuracy. We find ourselves in a double whammy with a 12 Mpx ultra-wide-angle selfie camera accompanied by a 3D depth sensor.
Honor also equipped its device with a discreet display chip that improves the quality of the moving image without the user noticing. The screen is also HDR10+ and IMAX Enhanced certified, and comes with dual stereo speakers.
A high-flying screen that protects sleep
Honor reduces screen flicker to avoid disturbing the user’s natural sleep cycle. The manufacturer ensures that this detail contributes to the production of melatonin by the body so as not to disturb sleep reconciliation, in order to improve the quality of sleep.
To help position its smartphone in the very high-end market, the brand has equipped it with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the same one found in the Samsung Galaxy S23 and, in particular, the latest Xiaomi 13 Pro.
In terms of autonomy, the Honor Magic5 Pro promises a good day of endurance thanks to its 5100 mAh battery and 66W SuperCharge, but also 50W wireless charging. It runs Android 13 and its MagicOS 7.1 home system, with the promise of three years of Android Updates and five years of security updates.
Price and availability of the Honor Magic 5 Pro
The Honor Magic 5 Pro will be available in the second quarter of 2023 in black and green. It is advertised at 1199 euros for a configuration with 512 GB of storage and 12 GB of RAM.
Note that Honor also launched the Magic5 Lite in France at €379 for 128GB of storage and 6GB of RAM.
The Honor Magic5 Lite is equipped with a two-day long battery life (5100 mAh), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G processor, a 6.67-inch 120Hz Amoled display, all in a colorful design. It has a triple photosensor with a 64 Mpx main module (5 Mpx ultra-wide angle and 2 Mpx macro).
