How to top up your Navigo pass, directly from your smartphone

This is a recurring situation in the Paris metro. On the first day of each month, a queue forms in front of the RATP points of sale. A meeting of users whose only objective is to recharge their monthly Navigo pass. If you’re in a hurry and don’t want to wait, top up your ticket directly from your smartphone. Here is the method to use.

Hello RATP, the dedicated application

The sine qua non to turn your smartphone into a Navigo charging station is to have an iPhone or Android mobile phone compatible with NFC technology. In fact, it’s almost every Android device released in the last ten years and every iPhone model since the iPhone 7.

Make sure the NFC function is enabled. Then download the Bonjour RATP app (App Store and Google Play).

• Open the Bonjour RATP app and click on “Titles” in the menu at the bottom right of the screen

• Swipe your Navigo Pass to the back of your smartphone so it can be read by your smartphone’s NFC chip. A vibration is activated to ensure that your ticket is correctly detected

• Then select your purchase (Navigo Day pass, Navigo Week pass, Navigo Month pass, etc.) by pressing “Buy on my pass” and proceed to payment by credit card

IDF Mobilités, the second alternative

• Open the IDF Mobilités app and click “Buy” in the menu at the bottom of the screen

• Choose the tab “On my Navigo pass”

• Place your Navigo pass on the back of your mobile phone so that it can be read by the NFC chip in your smartphone. A slight vibration is felt when the connection is established.

• Choose your purchase (weekly, monthly subscription, etc.) and pay through Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or credit card
• Reapply your Navigo pass at the top of your smartphone for the purchase to take effect

SNCF Connect, the third option

The SNCF Connect app is another solution to top up your Navigo pass using your smartphone. These are the steps to follow:

• Open the SNCF Connect app and click on the “Tickets” tab

• Choose the Île de France option on the left of the screen

• Click on the “With your Navigo pass” tab

• Place your ticket on the back of your smartphone
• Choose your purchase (monthly subscription) and make the payment through Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or credit card
• Put your Navigo pass back on top of your smartphone for your purchase to be transferred
