Elon Musk embarks on a new business adventure. According to the American media The Information, absorbed by Reuters, the head of Twitter, Tesla and SpaceX plans to create an alternative to ChatGPT. To do this, the billionaire has been trying to recruit big names in artificial intelligence for a few weeks.
Igor Babuschkin is one of the first recruits. This researcher recently left Deepmind, the subsidiary of Alphabet (Google’s parent company). Most notably, the company had developed AlphaGo, the first artificial intelligence to beat a high-level player at the game of Go.
Among the founders of OpenAI
For Elon Musk, these recruits should be used to develop a competitor to OpenAI, the company behind the ChatGPT chatbot. Although the billionaire was one of the founders of OpenAI in 2015, he quickly left the company, increasingly criticizing his flagship creation.
According to him, the ChatGPT solution, since it was integrated into the Bing search engine, has been “trained to wake up.” Tech&Co has already echoed the differences between OpenAI and Elon Musk. Officially, the billionaire left on good terms in 2018 to avoid any risk of conflict of interest: Tesla was conducting its own AI research. Actually, Elon Musk did not agree with the OpenAI choices.
The contractor’s project is still in its infancy. If Elon Musk and Igor Babuschkin discuss the composition of a research team, they would not specifically target any particular product at this time. In addition, the former Google employee told The Information that he had not officially signed anything.
