The inventor of the mobile phone made a funny prediction this Wednesday, March 1. At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Martin Cooper predicted that one day phones will be embedded under our skin.
It is not necessary to recharge, “your body is the perfect charger”, he predicted. “When you eat, your body creates energy, right?” she asked to justify her reasoning. Martin Cooper is the first person to make a phone call from a cell phone in 1973.
The cell dad also said he was “not a fan” of today’s smartphones. “Every time I make a phone call and I don’t have my headset on, I have to hold this flat piece of hardware against my bent head and hold my arm in an awkward position,” he said.
Martin Cooper believes that tomorrow’s phones will evolve to “spread throughout the body”, perhaps as sensors that “measure your health at all times”, he added according to Australian broadcaster ABC News.
“Humanity is progressing”
Projects to combine computers and the human brain are already underway. Elon Musk’s company Neuralink, for example, intends to place its computerized brain implant in human patients within the next six months, the company announced in December.
Fifty years after its invention, Martin Cooper spoke of the problems caused by the appearance of the mobile phone. “Privacy violations are a very serious problem, addiction to social networks is a problem,” he acknowledged. Despite everything, the American inventor maintains “an unwavering faith in humanity.”
“I look at history and I look at all the advances we’ve had with technology. People are better now,” he said. “And they are living longer. They are wealthier, they are healthier than ever. We have ups and downs. But overall, humanity is progressing,” she concluded.
