Instant messaging services have improved since the lockdown, with use for all situations, personal or professional. WhatsApp is now one of the most visited applications in France, with more than 38 million users a month and even 20 million every day, according to a Médiamétrie study.
These figures thus add to those of the IFOP study with Lemon revealed a few days ago, which states that 57% of the French have been active on WhatsApp in the last three months. 72% of the population has used the messaging service at some point in their lives. The study, titled “Are the French fed up with WhatsApp groups?” Above all, it shows the evolution of the vision of the multiple groups, family members, friends or professionals created in recent years.

If 96% of WhatsApp users say they are happy to be in a family group, on the other hand, the so-called “school” groups (parents of students, classmates) are much less appreciated: 20% of users they would like to get out of these. conversations
Thus, the French are generally satisfied with their presence in WhatsApp groups. A presence that is even quite marked with an average of 4.6 groups listed per user. A third of those surveyed even admit to belonging to five or more groups.

Therefore appreciated uses, but which can sometimes lead to less pleasant experiences (disputes, too many voice messages, unwanted people in the group, etc.) and therefore lead to behaviors that have become frequent. Half of WhatsApp users (51%) have already felt compelled to reply to group messages, synonymous with a form of social pressure.
Messages that can actually become too intrusive: 63% of users have already muted their group chat notifications. Among young people between the ages of 18 and 24, the figures are even more eloquent, with 81% of people concerned about this practice.
However, WhatsApp is still a necessity for many internet users: 28% of users say they cannot do without messaging for their social life.
