The announcement was expected. This Tuesday, TikTok announced the arrival of “Series”, a “new solution for sharing premium content”.
Clearly, the social network will make certain videos pay through a paywall. “TO Series can include up to 80 videos, each up to 20 minutes long, giving users a new, longer format to watch their favorite creators and content,” TikTok said in its statement.
What compensation?
“Eligible” creators will be able to set the price of their choice, the platform specifies, with a limit of $190. Unlike the paid subscriptions that already exist, Internet users will be able to access exclusive content this time, no longer paying a sum each month, but à la carte, for a particular video.
As with all apps on the Play Store or App Store, revenue from tiktokers will be wiped out by 30% by app stores, pending the TikTok commission that will come into play afterwards. The social network did not specify how or how much it intended to click.
Retaining content creators has become a major issue for social networks, starting with TikTok, which is currently at the center of the cyclone at risk of being banned in several countries, including the United States.
