Bras or small silk nightgowns… In China, men give up their bodies to sell women’s lingerie and thus act as models on social networks.
As the tells CNN, this fun business practice takes place on Douyin -the Chinese version of TikTok- or Weibo -the equivalent of Twitter- and it is no longer uncommon to see men promoting lingerie aimed at women. For good reason: drastic Internet censorship prohibits women from showing their bodies too naked. For sellers, therefore, it is necessary to bypass this censorship.
Some videos have been cut at the request of the authorities, a form of warning.
lingerie over clothes
Others have chosen to keep their female models but have them wear lingerie over a T-shirt, for example. The Chinese state had already launched in 2015 a major operation to censor cleavage on television, considered too dizzying by Chinese censors.
Actually, the use of male mannequins is not entirely new. Austin Li, one of the biggest influencers in the country, does not hesitate to try his lipsticks to sell them better.
The online sales sector is gigantic in China. After the Covid restrictions, it should account for close to 700 billion euros this year, according to a report by iResearch.
